GILLES RICART is a French designer based in Spain, born in Perpignan in 1964.
When was still a child, his father was posted to Spain where Gilles studied at the Madrid and Barcelona Lycées. After graduation, he relocated to Paris to study graphic design at the École Met de Penninghen and Art Déco.
In 1987, when he was 23 years old, he founded his fashion company and, the year after, opened his first ready to wear boutique in Paris.
In 1989 he decided to go worldwide and presented his first collection of hand painted leather clothes to great acclaim at the Dusseldorf fair.
Back in Spain in 1990, he opened his first Spanish show-room and, as Gilles Ricart International, started to present his collections at the Tokyo Fair.
The style of his garments in leather and suede is easily recognizable as is his handling of bold colors for which he is famous. His ready to wear is very popular amongst stylish women and fashion icons like HRH the Princess of Asturias, Jane Fonda, Cher, Naty Abascal, Paloma Cuevas, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, Marta Robles and Samantha Vallejo-Nágera, wear clothes every season.
He has been present for more than fifteen years at the most important fashion fairs in Paris, Milan, New York, Dusseldorf, Munich, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Madrid, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Shanghai or Seoul.
A few years ago he branched out into accessories and has presented with Clubalia a collection of leather handbags and accessories all handcrafted in Spain. He has recently collaborated on L ò XXL, a collection of furniture, with the interior decorator Aurora Gámez and the sculptor Curro Ulzurrun.
